CAN’T MISS HOCKEY NEWS 🎯

🍾 Connor Zary scores gorgeous winner, adds assist, Flames rally for 6-5 overtime win past Canucks. The 21-year-old center collected an apple on MacKenzie Weegar’s 3rd period snipe to tie the game at 4-4 before leading the rush in overtime, looking off a pass, faking a shot, dangling around the Canucks defenseman followed by their netminder and sliding the puck into the open cage for the game-winner — the 4th of his young NHL career — just 93 seconds into the extra period. The Flames battled back from a 3-0 first period deficit thanks to goals from newly acquired Anthony Mantha followed by Rasmus Andersson, Martin Pospisil, Weegar, and Jonathan Huberdeau to force OT. Dan Vladar made 20 saves for the Flames to collect his 1st win of the season. Read more →

☝️ Cole Caufield scores lone goal, Sam Montembeault makes 48 saves, Canadiens shutout the Maple Leafs 1-0. Wisconsin-native Caufield wasted no time ‘dusting off’ Juraj Slafkovsky’s feed on the power play, unleashing a wicked one-timer to the back of the net for his 1st power play tally of the season 7:48 into the 1st period. From there, the story was all Montembeault as the former 3rd round pick stopped everything the Leaf’s potent offense could throw his way, including a beautiful glove save on Auston Matthew’s 2nd period one-timer to earn just the 2nd shutout of his NHL career. His 48 saves sets a new NHL record for most saves in a season-opening shutout. Read more →

🚨 Ivan Barbashev and Jack Eichel each collect 4 points, Golden Knights whoop Avalanche 8-4. Barbashev, the former 2nd round pick of the Blues, accepted a Noah Hanifin feed in the slot and sniped high blocker for his 1st of the season late in the 1st period followed by earning helpers on Mark Stone’s 1st period tally 25 seconds later and Zach Whitecloud’s 2nd period goal, before scoring a goal-of-the-year candidate in the 3rd period, walking an Av’s defender and firing a lethal backhand to the top left corner for his 2nd goal and 4th point of the night. Jack Eichel collected assists on Barbashev’s 1st goal, both of Stone’s goals, and Whitecloud’s 2nd period bury. Stone added an assist for 3 points on the night, Shea Theodore earned 3 apples, Victor Olofsson scored twice and Adin Hill made 28 saves in the Golden Knights win. Read more →
