Setting the Stage: The Anthony Mantha Trade and the NHL's Trade Deadline Feeding Frenzy

The Anthony Mantha deal that went down Tuesday is merely the appetizer that should set off a feeding frenzy of trading over the next couple of days as Friday’s NHL trade deadline nears.

Moving from the Washington Capitals to the reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights, Mantha brought a 2024 second round pick and 2026 fourth round pick in return. However, the Capitals are retaining 50% of Mantha’s cap hit as part of the package.

Cole Caufield setup Suzuki’s game-winner plus David Savard’s flukey 2nd period tally. Brendan Gallagher scored his 10th of the season and Joshua Roy scored his 2nd to round out Montreal’s scoring. 🚨 Leon Draisaitl scores twice including OT winner, Oilers defeat Bruins 2-1. The German superstar deflected in a Connor McDavid centering feed with just 80 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime. Draisaitl then one-timed a cross-ice pass from McDavid past the Bruins’ Linus Ullmark 2:18 into OT for his 32nd goal of the season and 12th overtime goal of his career. Evan Bouchard collected two assists and Stuart Skinner made 25 saves as the Oilers won their 5th straight. Their 78 points put them in 2nd place in the Pacific division, 5 points ahead of LA.
