CAN’T MISS HOCKEY NEWS 🎯

🆓 Tyler Johnson leads quality list of NHL free agents still available. Despite NHL teams spending over a billion dollars on opening day of free agency, a number of proven players remain available as free agents. Some are veterans past their prime (i.e. Tyler Johnson and JVR) while others are young guns that have shown glimpses of starpower but not enough consistency to earn a big pay day on July 1st (i.e. Calen Addison and Filip Zadina). Here is our top-10 list of the remaining free agents to date, including their age, position, last year’s team, and last year’s cap hit.

  1. Tyler Johnson (34), C, CHI, $5M

  2. Tyson Barrie (33), D, NSH, $4.5M

  3. Justin Schultz (33), D, SEA, $3M

  4. James Van Riemsdyk (35), RW, BOS, $1M

  5. Calen Addison (24), D, SJ, $825k

  6. Tony DeAngelo (28), D, CAR, $1.68M

  10. Filip Zadina (24), RW, SJ, $1.1M

✍️ Colorado Avalanche sign defenseman Oliver Kylington to one-year, $1.05M contract. The 27-year-old played all 201 games of his NHL career across six seasons with the Calgary Flames, scoring 17 goals and adding 38 assists for 55 points and a +24. Kylington missed the entire 2022-23 season and the first half of the 2023-24 campaign due to personal reasons and was named a finalist for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The former 2nd round pick adds quality depth, potential offensive upside, and not a lot of risk given the team-friendly cap hit. Read more →

💸 Montreal Canadiens sign defenseman Kaiden Guhle to six-year, $33.3 million contract extension. The 22-year-old defenseman played 70 games last year for the Habs collecting 6 goals and 16 assists for 22 points, while averaging 20:51 of ice time — only Mike Matheson and Nick Suzuki averaged more — in just his 2nd full season of pro hockey. As of now, the former 1st round pick will have the 6th largest cap hit ($5.55M) on the Canadiens once this contract begins the 2025-26 season. Read more →
