Florida Panthers Starting to Feel Like Themselves

Last season, the Florida Panthers reached the Stanley Cup Final. This season, they have mastered the skill of treading water until help arrives.

Veteran goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 22 saves to spark the Florida Panthers to a 2-0 shutout triumph against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena. The Panthers (5-3-1) now have points in four consecutive games as they move closer to the return of key defensemen Brandon Montour and Aaron Ekblad from injuries.

Bobrovsky was playing his 650th career game and this was his 39th career shutout.

“I’m obviously not thinking about my personal achievements or my career achievements out there,” Bobrovsky said. “That’s a good team that is ahead of us in the standings, and we have to work hard to catch them.”

Bobrovsky was talking about the Boston Bruins who have started the season with a 10-game points streak while the Panthers have been trying to survive without two critical players. Both players have been practicing with the team wearing non-contact jerseys.

The return of those players will help ease the pain of losing Sam Bennett again after he just came back from the injured list. His return lasted 27 minutes of game time.

The Panthers have won 10 consecutive games against Detroit, dating to 2020-21.

Steven Lorentz and Anton Lundell each scored his first goal of the season for Florida.

Aleksander Barkov played his 672nd game with the Panthers, passing Jonathan Huberdeau for the most in team history. Barkov is also Florida’s leader in goals (245) and points (639).

“He’s a great offensive player, but I don’t think many people see how high his hockey IQ is,” Bobrovsky said. “He can do anything on the ice — offense and defense. If I gave him my goalie gear, he would be great at that too.”
