🔒 Seattle Kraken lock up Matty Beniers with a seven-year, $7.14M AAV deal, securing their first-ever draft pick (2nd overall in 2021 NHL Draft) and former Calder Trophy winner through 2030-31. After a stellar rookie season, Beniers struggled last year, tallying only 15 goals alongside 22 assists across 77 games as Seattle's offense sputtered. With new coach Dan Bylsma at the helm, the Kraken hope Beniers can regain his scoring touch and lead the team back to the playoffs. Read more →

🦈 Sharks acquire and then extend netminder Yaroslav Askarov. The San Jose Sharks sent the Nashville Predators David Edstrom, a 2025 first-round pick, and goaltender Magnus Chrona in exchange for the coveted Russian goaltender plus a 2025 third-round pick, and Nolan Burke. Sharks GM Mike Grier wasted no time extending Askarov, signing him to a 2-year $4 million contract, starting in 2025-26. The 22-year-old goaltender has played a total of 3 NHL games accumulating a 2.58 GAA and .914 save percentage. He recorded 6 shutouts, 30 wins, and a .911 save percentage in 44 games with the Milwaukee Admirals last season, Nashville’s AHL affiliate. Read more →

🔁 Jets trade Rutger McGroarty to Penguins for Brayden Yager. McGroarty, the 14th overall pick in 2022, had expressed doubts about his future in Winnipeg, prompting the trade. The 20-year-old was set to return to Michigan, after putting up 52 points in 36 games last season, but now joins the Penguins, signing his entry-level deal. In return, the Jets acquire Yager, a two-way center who excelled in the WHL, racking up 95 points in 57 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors while wearing an “A,” and recently inked his own entry-level contract. Both prospects shine internationally making this a fascinating trade to watch as their professional careers unfold. Read more →

Last Tuesday’s poll: Will Connor Bedard hit the 90-point mark in his sophomore season?

Last Tuesday’s poll was a nailbiter as 52.4% of participants predict Bedard will fall short of the 90-point mark this coming season.

And we appreciate some of our readers’ feedback:

Yes 🚨

“Should have a lot more to work with because the Hawks have acquired some veterans to help him score and assist”

- cnhuffine

“The rookie season hype is over. Other teams are not as awe-struck as they were and Bedard will face tougher opposition from more teams in his second season. He should muster 70-80 points this season.”

ICYMI 👬🧍‍♂️

Brothers Quinn, Jack, and Luke Hughes grace the cover of EA Sports’ NHL 25. They’re the first brothers to be on the cover of the NHL series and believed to the the first family to share the cover of a sports game franchise ever.

"This is obviously a pretty special accolade and something I think every NHLer wants to accomplish or grows up and thinks, 'Wow, it'd be really cool to be on the cover,'" Jack Hughes said. "We were the same way growing up, and it's another really special opportunity that we grabbed at when it came toward us, and I think we're really excited with the final product."
