Joey Daccord makes Winter Classic history 🏆
Plus, Tolvanen tips game-winner, Sens name Staios GM, and more.
Good morning. Slightly less news than usual to report this morning with only the Winter Classic on yesterday’s NHL schedule, but still plenty to cover.
And with World Junior Championship quarterfinals today plus 13 NHL games tonight, tomorrow’s newsletter should be a doozy.
Today’s lineup:
Joey Daccord collects 35 saves in shutout bid
Kaprizov out, Pacioretty nears return
Sens name Staios GM and president
Shooting progression drills
And a lot more… 👇
CAN’T MISS 🎯
☝️ Joey Daccord records first shutout in Winter Classic history, Kraken beat Golden Knights 3-0. The 27-year-old netminder was unbeatable yesterday afternoon, collecting 35 saves in front of 47,313 fans inside T-Mobile Park for his second shutout of the season and NHL career. The Boston, Massachusetts native made a number of timely stops, including two noteworthy saves in the dying minutes of the 1st and 3rd periods against Golden Knights’ leading scorer Jack Eichel. Daccord won the inaugural ‘Cocoa Cup’ as the game’s MVP.
Seattle Kraken right-winger Eeli Tolvanen scored 5:40 into the first period, skillfully tipping in Vince Dunn’s point shot for the eventual game-winner and 10th goal of his season. Tolvanen collected an assist on Will Borgen’s 2nd period tally and Yanni Gourde scored just 2:10 into the 3rd period to give the Kraken a 3-0 lead. The win gives the Kraken five in a row, while improving to 7-0-2 in their past nine games, setting a new franchise record for most consecutive games with a point. Read more →
"Today is just a special day for everybody," Daccord said. "For our team, for the city, for hockey, today was an incredible day and just so grateful to be a part of it. … It was something I'll never forget and probably one of the coolest days of my life."
