Good morning. We suspected the WCF rematch of Dallas vs. Vegas last night would be tight but we never predicted a shootout finale. And the Hockey Recap team continues to impress as 55.6% of yesterday’s poll participants correctly predicted a Golden Knights victory — more on that below.

Tonight is a light night with only two NHL games but hey, at least the game times are staggered so you shouldn’t have to watch any intermissions!

- Brandon Rubeo & Kevin Allen

Today’s Lineup:

  • Golden Knights stay unbeaten with shootout win

  • Pierre-Luc Dubois opens scoring against former team

Golden Knights Stay Unbeaten With Shootout Win vs. Stars

Four months of the Vegas Golden Knights celebrating the franchise’s first Stanley Cup hasn’t altered their commitment to winning.

The Golden Knights downed the Dallas Stars 3-2 in a shootout for their fourth consecutive win to start the season. William Karlsson netted the tying tally with 2:59 remaining in regulation. Adin Hill made 24 saves to support the win.

Vegas is the first team since the 1997-98 Detroit Red Wings to start a season 4-0 after winning a Stanley Cup.

“It just speaks volumes to the group of guys we got here,” Hill said. “We didn’t take the start of the season lightly after coming off the win. We came back to camp, got back to business. Everyone showed up in good shape. It’s showing.”

The Golden Knights are playing without No. 1 defenseman Alex Pietrangelo who has missed the past two games with an upper body injury. He is listed as day to day.

Vegas has outscored opponents 15-5 in its streak and has yet to surrender a power play goal. The Golden Knights are 11-for-11 on the penalty kill. Dating to last season, the Golden Knights haven’t yielded a power play in the past 12 games or 27 chances.

Shea Theodore and Jonathan Marchessault scored in the shootout to assure the triumph against the Stars. These opponents know each other well. The Golden Knights eliminated the Stars in last season’s Western Conference Finals.

Rookie Kaedan Korczak scored his first NHL goal in the game for the Golden Knights who out-hit the Stars 40-17. Three of the Vegas wins have come at home.

The Golden Knights play their next two games on the road in Winnipeg (Thursday) and Chicago (Saturday) before returning to Las Vegas to play the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

👑 Pierre-Luc Dubois opened scoring against former team, Kings down Jets 5-1. Acquired by the Kings from the Jets on June 27th, the 25-year-old forward scored his first as a King midway through the 1st just as an LA power play expired. Trevor Moore added two goals and Arthur Kaliyev and Phillip Danault each scored once to round out Kings’ scoring. Cam Talbot made 26 saves for the Kings while Mark Scheifele scored with 1:16 remaining in regulation to ruin his shutout bid. Read more →

🚨 Egor Zamula scored his 1st NHL goal and Carter Hart picked up his 1st shutout of the season in 2-0 win over the Canucks. The 23-year-old undrafted defenseman Zemula wired a wrister, the eventual game winner, past Thatcher Demko’s glove to open scoring just 1:45 into regulation. Sean Couturier scored on a penalty shot late in the opening period for his 1st goal in nearly two years while Carter Hart collected 25 saves for his 6th career shutout. Read more →

With his 6th career shutout last night, Carter Hart is now tied with Brian Elliott with the 15th most shutouts as a Flyer. Who holds the Philadelphia Flyers all-time shutout record? Hint: the legend sitting at #1 has more than double the shutouts of #2.
