Another 4 points for Connor McDavid, another Oilers win

Plus, Jaromir Jagr flys team plane, Canucks extend Filip Hronek, and more

In partnership with

Good morning. The Oilers are certainly making this series a lot more interesting than anyone imagined after the Panthers established a 3-0 lead.

My prediction of ‘Panthers in 7’ is still possible, but I’m not in love with my chances if the Oilers push the series that far.

Today’s lineup:

  • Another four points for Connor McDavid

  • Paul Stanton recollects Jagr flying team plane after Cup win

  • Canucks extend Filip Hronek

  • 3-step linear crossover progression in today’s Coaches Corner

  • And a lot more… 👇

CAN’T MISS HOCKEY NEWS 🎯

☝️ Connor McDavid has another 4 point night, Oilers beat Panthers 5-3 to extend series. The 27-year-old superstar collected an apple on Zach Hyman’s power play goal just under two minutes into the 2nd period for the 2-0 lead, scored his 7th of the postseason three minutes later, and setup Corey Perry’s 1st bury of the postseason with a gorgeous dangle-and-dish sequence for 3 points in the 2nd period last night.

McDavid added an empty-netter in the final minute of regulation to become the first player in NHL history to have back-to-back four-point games in the Stanley Cup Final.

His 42 points is the 4th most all-time in a single postseason, joining Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as the only players to record at least 40 points in a playoff run. He’s essentially a lock for the Conn Smythe if the Oilers win this series.

Similar to game 4, the Oilers opened scoring with a shorthanded goal, this time a beautiful breakaway tally from Connor Brown 5:30 in the 1st period, his 2nd goal of the playoffs.

Evan Bouchard became the 4th defenseman in NHL history to collect 30 points in a playoff run thanks to his 94 mph slapshot deflecting in off of Hyman’s knee in the 2nd period. Bouchard added two more apples before the night was over to finish with 26 so far these playoffs, breaking Paul Coffey’s all-time record (25) for most assists by a defenseman in a single postseason.

Stuart Skinner was a beast between the pipes once again, making a number of timely saves as the Panthers outshot the Oilers 32 to 24. Skinner finished the night with 29 saves and a .906 save percentage as he collected his 13th win of the playoffs.

The Oilers have outscored the Panthers 15-4 since the 3rd period of Game 3 and became the first team in NHL history to win a Game 5 on the road after trailing 3-0 in the series.

Matthew Tkachuk, Evan Rodrigues, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Panthers who return to Edmonton Friday night for another chance to win Lord Stanley. Read more →
