Calle Jarnkrok completes Leafs' comeback in overtime

Good morning. According to yesterday’s poll, our Hockey Recap fam has mixed feelings but mostly a pessimistic view (61.29%) of Auston Matthews’ chances of establishing a new single-season hat trick record.

It’s a shame Matthews was limited to just another two goals last night.

✌️ Calle Jarnkrok scores twice including OT winner, Leafs rally to defeat Lightning 6-5. Despite Leafs’ rookie Matthew Knies scoring just 3:42 into the game, Toronto found themselves down 4-1 at the end of the 1st period. Auston Matthews started the Leafs rally with two goals in the 2nd followed by Calle Jarnkrok’s first tuck of the game 1:55 into the 3rd before Mitch Marner gave Toronto the lead just 8 second later. Tampa’s Brandon Hagel forced overtime before Calle Jarnkrok redirected a Morgan Rielly feed to the back of the net to complete the comeback win. Read more →

🚨 Carter Verhaeghe buries rebound in overtime, Panthers beat Blue Jackets 5-4. After establishing a 3-0 lead just over six minutes into regulation, thanks to goals from Ryan Lomberg, Gustav Forsling, and Aleksander Barkov, Florida took their foot off the gas, allowing the Blue Jackets to score four unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead midway through the 3rd. Fortunately for Panthers fans, Nick Cousins buried a shot low-blocker with the goalie pulled and just 57 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime where Carter Verhaeghe needed less than 90 seconds to secure the come-from-behind win. 🐻 Bruins’ rookies John Beecher & Mason Lohrei score 1st NHL goals, Boston beats Dallas 3-2. Boston’s 2019 1st round pick John Beecher went bardown midway through the 1st to open scoring before the Bruins’ 2020 2nd round pick Mason Lohrei sniped Oettinger’s glove side less than four minutes later to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead. Bruins’ captain Brad Marchand buried a rebound on the power play midway through the 3rd for the game-winner and Jeremy Swayman made 35 saves as the Bruins improved to 10-1-1 on the season.
