The Boston Bruins (60-12-5) became the fourth team in NHL history to win at least 60 games in a season. However, there’s only one of those other teams the Bruins want to emulate.
The 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings (62 wins), 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning (62), and the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens (60) are the others in the 60-win club. In that group, only Montreal went on to win the Stanley Cup.
“At the end of the day, I think we've done a really good job at staying in the moment,” Bruins forward Brad Marchand said after Bruins’ defeated the St. Louis Blues’ 4-3 in a shootout to win No. 60.
The Bruins are a veteran team that prides itself on having a hyper focus on winning the Stanley Cup.
Boston needs only three wins and eight points over their final five games to set new league marks for total wins and points. But that’s not the Bruins’ focus.
Center David Krejci and defenseman Charlie McAvoy didn’t even play against the Blues because coach Jim Montgomery wants them rested for the playoffs. Boston captain Patrice Bergeron also missed his second consecutive game for what the Bruins are calling “resting nagging injuries.”
With three top players missing, it helps to have premium goalie Linus Ullmark on top of his game. He made 35 saves against the Blues to earn his NHL-leading 38th win. He tied Tiny Thompson (1929-30) for the second most single-season total in Bruins’ history. Pete Peeters owns the team record of 40, set in 1982-83.
The Bruins continue to downplay their regular-season accomplishments. “It’s something we try not to get caught up in,” Marchand said.
What they do like is that they are playing well with the playoffs around the corner. They have won three in a row, and 10 of their last 11. David Pastrnak has seven goals in a five-game points streak. Tyler Bertuzzi has three goals and nine points since coming over from Detroit. Injured Taylor Hall could be ready for the postseason. It’s coming together for the Bruins.
Will the Boston Bruins break the NHL's all-time single season wins record (62)? |

👑 Alex Iafallo scores twice, Kings clinch playoff berth with 4-1 win over the Canucks. The 29-year-old forward one-timed Anze Kopitar's feed to the back of the net midway through the 1st before chipping in a rebound for his second of the game early in the 2nd period which proved to be the game-winner. Arthur Kaliyev and Blake Lizotte each collected a goal and an assist and Joonas Korpisalo made 24 saves as the Los Angeles Kings improved to 7-2-1 in their last ten. The win clinches a playoff spot for the Kings as they continue to battle for the top of the Pacific Division, currently sitting one point back from Vegas and one point ahead of the Oilers.
Perfect, perfect, perfect. 😌

🛩️ Nikolaj Ehlers' two goals power Jets over the Devils 6-1, maintain hold on final wild card. The Aalborg-Denmark native scored two one-timers, the first off a Blake Wheeler feed just 5 minutes into the 1st and another with just over 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd on the power play. Nino Niederreiter, Morgan Barron, Kyle Connor, and Pierre-Luc Dubois each scored once, Josh Morrissey and Blake Wheeler collected two assists, and Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves for a .969 save percentage as the Jets maintained their 2-point lead over the Calgary Flames for the final Western Conference wild card.
Another perfect apple from 26, and Fly puts it away 🚨
